The tl;dr is that the earliest pokemon designs were just ultraman-style kaiju with the edges filed off to get it halfway to an SD style. That's why there's so many thick bottom-heavy bipeds. Not that I'm leveling that as criticism.

Unlike other Gens, Gen 1 created their own new animals.

Snorlax, Eeveelutions, Arcanine, Nidoran for example look like realistic animals but not the same as ours.

Snorlax has properties of a bear, panda, sloth and fat cat. Furthermore, it seems to be inspired from Totoro.

Eevee has properties of a fennec fox, cat and chihuahua. Each Eeveelution has stronger properties of one of these 3.

They're like NEW animals.

unknown. it's not clear. between cats or bears, though, it's more likely to be bears: cats have retractable claws whereas bears do not, and snorlax's claws are not retractable. cats aren't fat gluttons, whereas bears are. bears are known for loving honey, whereas cats are obligate carnivores who can't even taste sweetness.

like most pokemon, it's probably not necessarily based on a single animal and is more of a mishmash of different ideas put together into a creature. most likely, they designed these creatures according to what they had in mind, rather than going to the zoo and making animated versions of all the animals they saw there. it may share traits with certain IRL animals, but that doesn't mean the pokemon is based on it.

he is. even the eating mold thing snorlax does is because this dude ate a moldy snack once. even the name kabigon is from the nickname they gave poor koji nishino. in his in game appearances, his highest level pokemon is a snorlax, also.
