There was one where they failed with Wobbuffet. They resorted to depleating all their PP and using struggle which was preferable most of the time, but they couldn't get past one elite 4 battle even at level 100.
But I'm pretty sure if they used Ethers outside of battle they could have made it.

I remember seeing a gen 3 run with Wurmple on some forum like a decade ago. At that point I even felt like pretty much any shitmon challenge run was pointless, if Wurmple can get through Steven, then anything is possible.
