>>39873291>>39873332Because they look different, not because the style is bad. Nobody complains about Kukui, Lana, Kiawe, Mallow, Lillie, Gladion, Sophocles, Lusamine, Wicke, Faba, Burnett, Guzma, Plumeria, Olivia, Nanu, Hapu, Acerola, Hala, Molayne, Hau, Ilima, Mina, Mohn, or any Pokémon other than Pikachu (which nobody talks about anymore after they stopped taking in-between frames from the first episode previews) and Charizard.
But it's Ash, Brock, Misty, Jessie, James, Pikachu, and Charizard that people are upset about and that's evidence of the animation being bad or something when it's really just a style change that people who watched the original series as children. The original series didn't look great. Its style is iconic but it never did much in terms of animation and it was notorious for its shortcut speedline backgrounds and panning characters with only mouth movements. It was the early incarnation of an indefinitely running anime made in the late 90s. The real stand out moments were always in movies.
But Ash has small eyes for this series, who cares? It doesn't make a lick of difference. Brock and Misty are more rounded, what's the big deal? Why should anyone care about their designs when all the complaints boil down to "They're different than what I have nostalgia for"? The SM anime actually looks like it tries to be animated, and that's worth giving praise to, but keep in mind that this is and always has been a franchise for children and adults will typically not be watching it unless they're with their children or they have an interest in animation. Ash's design changes between each series, and I don't just mean his clothes, I mean proportions, coloring, linework, and various other factors to give each one a subtly different impression. This wasn't a subtle change but once again, does it even matter to us?
