I want Pokémon to have this feature. They should use Gen 2-style graphics for it.

gsc looks terrible, it's barely even an upgrade from rgby. towns and cities still look more like favelas, the overreliance on bright pink and green instead of an actual color scheme looks awful, and it lacks the attention to detail found in other gbc games. take the nostalgia goggles off and try to judge the games impartially.

Gen 4 makes more sense. It had the best overworld sprites and gen 5 reused a lot of its sprites for Pokémon and returning trainers.

No, they make an incomplete game twice and then make the complete version 1~2 years later. At least, that's what happened until XY. Now the "complete" version is just as unfinished as the original game

Explorers of Sky came out 10 years ago, Ranger 3 has even less time in its back.

Older spin-off games. Looking at Dragon Quest the more detailed sprites used for previous remakes are what XI's are based on so gen 3 or 4 are the obvious choices for a Pokémon counterpart.

the difference you're ignoring is that dragon quest's remakes looked good. older main-series pokemon games did not. instead of recycling graphics that didn't even look good at the time, it would be better for them to take cues from the spinoffs and produce better spritework.

The fact that you're ignoring here is that a Retro Mode would, without the slightest doubt, be created to appeal to nostalgiafags aka the people who played the Gen. 1 and 2 games.

It doesn't matter if it looks good or not, as long as it looks or feels like the retro pokémon game whose fanbase they decide to pander to, it'll work.
