Greninja: Only won against two Megas in the entire series (Sawyer's Mega Sceptile and Wulfric's Mega Abomasnow), and in both cases it barely won. When it fought against Diantha's Mega Gardevoir, it was a practice battle, not a serious match, and the Gardevoir held back because Diantha was trying to test out Ash-Greninja. Ash barely defeated his semifinal round opponent.
In the last clash between Water Shuriken and Blast Burn, Blast Burn had a much wider area of effect and appeared to be a much more powerful move overall. The Water Shuriken only made close contact with the frontal portion of Mega Charizard X's body, but Blast Burn affected Ash-Greninja's entire body starting from its legs.
