Nothing gamefreak does is prototype for anything because it's immediately abandoned. How many times are people going to buy rushed games with subpar content that will ultimately lead nowhere just on the hope that they building up on it?

They don’t have to. These ‘wild area’ basically amount to the open areas in Zelda on 64. They aren’t areas so much as large rooms with on central overworld field acting as a hub to all routes

the only time game freak takes fan reception into account is when it's fake "fans" begging for less content and less ambition.
with that in mind, gen 9 probably WILL be open world. that way, they can get away with cutting even more pokemon out of the games and making even less content, since normalfags are easily impressed by big empty sandboxes.

i do agree, since gf panders to normalfag who appreciated the overall streamlining and accessibility, cutscenes over dungeons, railroaded maps, pokemon go integration and mmo customisation and gacha wine mom games then a push for open world is definetely possible, and the only aspect out of all the ones listed that may actually improve the franchise if done right
