Anime takes place in the same canon as the Ash anime, but 10 years later.
Ash is no longer the main protagonist, but will make cameos from time to time. He is now the champion of Kanto.
The new protagonist is named Tsunekazu, after Tsunekazu Ishihara. English dub name not confirmed. His design resembles that of the male protagonist of the Let's Go games.
Like Ash, Tsunekazu starts with a Pikachu.
Tsunekazu's traveling companions are the female protagonist from the Let's Go games, and a new male character who is a geek similar to Clemont/Sophocles.
