They obviously will just like they did for the DS and 3DS and stick the New name in front of it most likely since that's all Japan and they don't take no for an answer on the New name.
It likely won't be for a couple years though. 2021/22 make the most sense because they intend the system to be a 7 - 10 year platform.
Upgrade in the middle after the Sony/MS systems release and we see what they actually do makes the most sense so they know what to do with a pro to keep getting as many ports as possible.
Since PS4/XBO will continue to get ports for a few years after anyway, they don't NEED one right away like most people act like.
The absolute earliest I'd expect it is late next year alongside BotW2 but any time delayed is time for the price of shit to come down and the physics of shit to be worked out for handhelds better so I really wouldn't expect it since Nintendo likes to keep price down as much as possible.
Also, on the quality side, you know Nintendo knows how much they fucked up. They're safe right now though, and don't need to rush a next system out unlike the Switch so they'll probably take their time doing a "New" iteration.
Mid to late 2021 seems most likely to me. Gives them time to get the details on the other systems and then get their New one it in the hands of people for Gen 9 Pokémon in 2022.
