Depends. Themes help differentiate between runs, which is useful for 'tismlockes or if you're actually playing on physical and intend to transfer your mon up afterwards, but they can sometimes end up with 'stretch'y names just to keep consistency. Freedom works if its just a whatever run that's going to fade to the void afterwards.

I once tried for a Final Fantasy theme because I thought a series with that many characters would make for easy names. Literally every pokemon turned out the opposite gender of the character I had in mind for it. I guess just pick something you can not think about it and throw out a name

Ruby is done. Never used a Zangoose before, but Peanut fucking carried the run. Anytime I thought I was fucked, Peanut would casually one shot something once I got return on it. She even swept Phoebe after setting up a swords dance. Everyone on the team did great in the end, and I'm glad I grinded for ice beam on Chickpea.

I like themes, but they tend to get hard to follow toward the end unless you have a list of things to reference for names.

I had a mercy rule for myself when nuzlocking gens I hadn't done before that others might like, so I'll post it.
Essentially, permadeath still applied, but I could throw away Revives or Max Revives in order to "resurrect" a Pokémon that "died." Buying Revives was forbidden, as were Revives obtained as prizes or from the Underground, etc. Stockpiling wasn't allowed either - in order to resurrect a mon, I had to throw away all Revives of the same type, normal or Max.
I didn't have a rule for Revival Herbs, maybe those could be single-use to account for their rarity, I dunno.
This might be more balanced in the older games where Revives weren't handed out like candy, but I like it because it works thematically and can easily be tweaked to fit the player's desired level of challenge.

This is the state of my current nuzlockes. I consider these runs to be a test of the new rules. It was definitely a garbage idea to nuzlocke 6 games at once with new rules. I'll choose a game to run at a later time, but this was hell.Big props to everyone else who took on similar challenges of playing multiple games at once. I didn't expect it to be so hard when I started.

God Parfum palace is so boring.
THAT one fight after it went from bullshit to free exp, though. I opened up with a double growl for safety, which was a good call as both Furfrous ganged up on Reflet and left her on pretty suspect yellow health, and I got flame body proc on both of them. Thanks to Gen 6 exp mechanics I shuffled my party around to be in the fight and got a good two levels for everyone

I forget the names of the areas in X and Y. Is Glittering Cave the one with Wobbuffets?
I remember in an XY run I did, I ran into a wild Wobbuffet. Thankfully, I was leading with my Ivysaur and managed to poison it before it used safeguard.
Then I just used a revive over and over again on my living Pokemon to stall for turns until the Wobbuffet died of poison (destiny bond only works for direct damage, poison doesn't count).
I was pretty proud of myself for managing to get through that. Especially because I lost 2 Pokemon to the Wobbuffet trainers in Mt. Pyre in a previous Emerald run.

His rules were in the last thread, but it was pretty lax and more what I would have done. He didn't have a level cap, but with that game it's kind of hard to establish it. Every pokemon was catchable and usable, but if they died: that's it.
Most nuzlockes of that game on youtube has all these retarded rules like "you can only catch a pokemon if you alternate between male and female pokemon" or shit like that.

Ah okay. I'm trying to finish a Nuzlocke I started back in December of last year of Emerald. Random encounters, starters, gift 'mons, trades, events, movesets, types, and shuffled stats. I remember it being really difficult to get it going but now I'm breezing through it. Oh and I increased the level curve slightly. All of these things made it very grindy.
