I'm not sure what the textures on the Switch are, but they're at least double that.
Compressing images down causes very little degradation, but expanding them can cause shit to look extra shitty super easily.
So we have the same meshes for the next 30 years or more... But they have to redo the texture maps with each game because they didn't think to make future proofed textures like they did meshes.
