The layout's good, though the land bridge is a little rigid, uniform.
My only major gripe are the tiles - it's a little desaturated, while still managing to have some contrast issues.

It's worse than it looks. Lots of corridors where you just run straight up or down followed by huge empty plateaus. I'll have to add some obstacles and probably a few quest Pokemon to the area, but it's already a lot shorter than it looks with a lot of unused and inaccessible space. I think at the end of the route I'll add a connection to a small forest area, just to buff the route up a bit.

Great idea. I didn't have any ledges on the tileset so I didn't think to add them in, but that's easy enough to fix.

That's gonna come in the decoration phase. I changed that big empty rock up by the top so it has a bit of a mining operation feel to it. I think I might give the player a quest to get some mining tools in the cave to the south, then set up an event where they can mine a rock in the quarry which summons a Pokemon. Something like a Carbink as a reward would be neat. The player does need a rock type.

I've just had that burst of motivation to finish that project that never gets done. That being said I have a few questions for you guys.

1. Do you prefer just Fakemon or a mix between Fakemon and Pokémon?

2. How do you feel about mons like objectmons or "non-living" mons?

3. Would you welcome new mechanics? (I get this is vague but an example would be trainer skills or Mons having an innate ability to do things like levitate/fly/cross bodies of water, etc...)

4. How do you feel about type reworks? (e.g. new types, changing/removing old ones, etc...)

I'll try to answer any questions you guys have. Thanks in advance.

1. Either just fakemon or just pokemon. A mix always feels out of place IMO.

3. I will never play your romhack if it doesn't add new mechanics. It's probably the most important thing to differentiate your game from the thousands of other romhacks that already exist. Especially if you go for a basic story or no fakemon. Your examples sound pretty fun.
4. Fine with me as long as it's not too intrusive and it's explained in-game/documented somewhere.

If more than half of the dex is fakemon, I'd rather have the whole dex just be fakemon. If less than a quarter of the dex is fakemon, I prefer a mix of fake and official.

These are some of my favourites, but they have to be done well.

Absolutely. Games like Pokemon Reborn thrive because of how they introduce stuff like the Field Effect system, but what you're describing sounds more like stuff that affects the overworld.

Hate it. This has made me drop or otherwise entirely ignore games that I would have enjoyed otherwise. Unless you're removing something patently broken or just generally unfun (like removing shit like double team and minimize) or you're just giving a better level up moveset to something like Delibird, then I'm okay with it. If it's a big enough change that you consider it worth advertising in bold letters on your release notes, then I'm probably not gonna bother.

There is no secret but there are ways to make it happen more often.

This keeps you relatively motivated and stress free. No commitment means no pressure which means working on your project isn't too much of a burden. I started out just doing it because I wanted to map my own little world. A friend of mine enjoyed playing around in it and said others might enjoy it too so I figured I'd take it a little bit further. Paper and pencil is paramount since you can easily and quickly plan anything without worrying about constraints like tilesets, etc... (Graphics are the main thing that delays me). Finally
>Get past the "wall"
When you're about to give up or feel like you barely did anything just giving do it. It's the hardest and most important step but it stops you from showing down your project (you decide you want to change up your city, need new role, etc and nothing gets to that "finished" phase before polishing)
These are just some things that work for me

Also, any tips on how you to do sketching? How do you do it, how in-depth you you go on paper? Just a rough idea or do you go full autism and draw it out tile by tile?
And the biggest one for me, how do you not lose your shit over the prospect of actually writing the scripts for it all?

I meant "just fucking do it" and "slowing down your project"
It can be as in depth as you want. The only thing I'm actually good at drawing is stick figures so I usually end up sketching very basic things like houses, main paths and flowcharts. I worry about tile-by-tile issues and consistency only when dealing with logistics like events and polishing out my maps. I've worked on other projects before so scripts/logic is the easiest part for me. I've done a new capture formula, messed around with some trainer skills and Mon attributes and the game is a tiny bit open world but I'm still working on that aspect. It's both fun and challenging to try to make the roles/lore of your game fit in with the rest.

To those looking for the motivation to make your game, I say don't bother with the motivation. Do something on the side. Doodle new maps in your game while watching a stream or some videos in another tab. By the time a few hours have passed, you'll have a whole new map you can work with.
Sometimes it's best to just go with your heart. One of the quests in my game involved cornering a Dedenne and its partner. Three cutscenes in, I accidentally had one of the events create a copy of the Dedenne and move it alongside the main one. I rolled with it: Now there's a Dedenne and his partner.
Then I was gonna have the Dedenne fight you to protect his partner, which was ultimately how you were going to catch it, but then I thought it'd be easier to have one of the Dedennes end up in a perilous situation while the other runs away, letting you choose to fight it or, if you hate Dedenne, leave it to its fate.
THEN I decided that the Dedenne wasn't in trouble at all, and was actually tricking you. If you help it, it'll steal your berries.

Open up a stream of consciousness in your game and you'll find inspiration to continue the important stuff on your own.
