I find it incredibly funny that I hear this question exclusively from people who don't live in the UK. Curry is incredibly popular there. For example, chicken tikka masala is one of the national dishes.

Many "Indian" dishes were created in British restaurants. Most westerners wouldn't touch the authentic stuff just like how general tso's chicken was invented in Chinese restaurants in the states.
