It's obvious they just don't really care what it is the fans want, they're just doing the bare minimum to have people buy Sword and Shield. They can obviously give us following Pokemon since Lets Go exists, they just don't care enough to do so.

Did you not play Let's Go? Or even see gameplay from it?
Fast Pokemon will often run alongside/ahead of the player. Quite often it'll lead to them finding an item too.

You are what's wrong with the franchise.

Following Pokemon is a fun little extra aesthetic feature (when it can be turned off like Let's Go) but it is hardly anywhere near as relevant as the dex culling, or even camping/Amie if we are being honest.

Let's Go only let you interact with your starter, and following Pokemon let you interact the others

Camping lets you interact with all of your Pokemon at once
