Origins story is 95% different from the games.

Masters has characters that can't be together at the same time such as BW1 characters and BW2 characters. Also, Red here has different Pokémon depends on it suits.

And you are right, Gary said he had the privilege to pick first because he's Oak's relative so Ash would have went with Bulbasaur, wins gyms easy, and wins the league because he wouldn't have a fire lizard that sleeps in tournaments.

In the anime, Ash got a Bulbasuar first, then the other two starters.
Red have a Venusaur called "Saur" in the manga and games. Generatios is just a selection of animated shorts with no lore relevancy.

How do you know what pokemon Oak had? We only saw two Gary's Squirtle and Ash's Pikachu, all the other balls were empty. Since he had Pikachu there then Eevee might have been a choice as well, who fucking knows as he had more then traditional three starters to choose from so I call bullshit.
