Is it worth beating? I really want to beat R2, but grinding for a team in R/B/Y is a pain and I find it stressful to fight maxed out 'mons with the shitty rentals.

nah, training a team for it isn't really worth it, maybe a few good ones like Chansey, Starmie, Zapdos with good moves using the Dodrio tower and see how far you can get, but unless you really really want to beat it, No.

Since the Pokemon presents do not change in the Round 2 Gym castle that I recall, it is all down to if you find it entertaining. The mercy of Pika Cup is that you only have a dozen or so options but most of them are excellent.

Play R/B. Get to Cinnabar. Do the item clone glitch with rare candies/vitamins/TM. Feed pokemon. Done.

I've already done that. I did a catch 'em all run on my original gen 1 carts. What's causing me real trouble is that I've had to emulate Stadium.

Come to think of it, should I take a catch 'em all run as licence to hack a good team in a Stadium?

You will only make it easy if you use something like a Mewtwo every turn.
The battles are great, no matter if you do tedious grinding or glitchs. At one point, you simply stop collecting efford values, so makes no difference of gou level up with rare candy or battles. It's just your time.
