Honestly the entire game fundamentally bothers me, I think its fair to say most people like Pokemon for the cool monster designs (desu I'd go as far as to say Pokemon has NEVER excelled in any aspect of game design besides the iconic creature designs).
We like getting attached to them, finding favourites and making our own stories in the world we're given.
But the games themselves are cold, emotionless number-crunching simulators. The Pokemon are devoid of any personality besides a +- to certain stats, which just results in the Pokemon you catch probably being objectively inferior to others of their species. You'd be better off releasing it and catching another, punishing you for having any kind of sentimental attachment to your Pokemon - which is exactly what draws people to the games in the first place.
