It's the quintessential Pokemon look, it's what defined the way the franchise looks. It's not up for debate how it's the best because ever subsequent gen measures up to it, it's the "soul" of Pokemon. Before pikachu slimmed up, it all the others looked like actual monster in the official art.

Unless you mean the people that actually stuck around with the franchise, in which a sizable portion of those people are satisfied with literally anything as long as it has Pokemon written on it
In proportion to these two groups, few people actually want the gameplay to keep evolving instead of being complacent with Game Freak moving one step forward and three steps back
