>>39957462>Lightconsists of moves that create laser beams, illusions, holograms, hard light, etc. Includes retyping existing moves like Signal Beam, Aurora Beam, Double Team, etc. Some other moves will be left alone for the sake of type balancing. Hyper Beam, for example, would remain Normal since it's a blast of concussive energy versus a stream of photons. Every single Fire-type move attacks with thermal energy and literal flames so there is no overlap there. Psychic type moves will be the ambiguously designed telekinetic and telepathic type moves that they are, only a handful would need to be changed to light, like Photon Geyser. Fairy-types will remain vague and nebulous but learn more into the motifs of cuteness, pixies, tricksters, vaguely relating to the moon, etc.
Type interactions are more dictated to balance the type chart than by logic but I think it still makes sense.
>SE againstFairy, Ghost, Electric
>NVE againstIce, Rock (both diffract/reflect light), Bug (bugs are attracted to light sources)
>No effect againstGrass (Grass photosynthesizes light)
>ResistsFairy, Ghost, Dark
>Weak toBug, Grass, Psychic
This way we get the nerf to to Fairy we need and buffs to Ice, Rock, Grass, Bug and Psychic. Ghost and Dark aren't especially OP in comparison but Ghost and Electric have too few weaknesses. Most Pokemon of those types aren't big defensive threats and those that are can be tough to surmount so I think it's a good trade off Defensive electric-types like Rotom or Zapdos would also benefit from new Light-type moves. Dark isn't really OP but fuck Knock Off..
Pokemon lines that would be retyped:
>Starmie (Water/Light)>Volbeat (Bug/Light)>Lanturn (Water/Light)>Ampharos (Electric/Light)>Solgaleo (Steel/Light)>Lunala (Ghost/Light)>Necrozma (Dragon/Light)>Luxray light (Light)Pokemon that could feasibly be retyped:
>Jirachi, for the star motif>Latios/Latias and Kekleon, for their ability to manipulate light to turn invisible
