>>39960690>It practically invalidated half the fucking dex in Gen IVThat’s cool (even though your charizard wasn’t going to be anywhere close to OU in Gen 4 due to everything else). Gen 2 Snorlax defines makes otherwise shit pokemon viable since they have a small chance to kill or stop Snorlax, and invalidates absolutely everything else without question. And tons of viable Pokemon are forced to run unvaible moves because it has a chance to KO Snorlax.
Take Zapdos and Raikoi, considered the second and third best Pokemon in GSC OU. In GSC, they are 100% forced to use Thunder over Thunderbolt, simply because it has a chance to KO a snorlax after a belly drum.
Zapdos Thunder vs. Snorlax: 143-169 (27.3 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Spikes and Leftovers recovery
Only after spikes or a crit can Zapdos and Raikou KO snorlax after a belly drum, and they can’t use thunderbolt as otherwise they would let Snorlax heal that BD, which meant GG. And that’s literally just for 1 set. And this is just 1 example of Pokemon being top tier literally just because of Snorlax or top tier Pokemon needing to have specific sets to even check it.
Machamp can barely check it as Double Edge can do half without boosts.
Skarmory can’t check BD Snorlax if heals with rest
Steelix with spikes on its side has to win a speed tie with BD Snorlax, and still can’t OHKO it from full health with pre-nerf explosion
Ghost most certainly can’t come in on Earthquake, especially without recovery
Offensive Tyranitar is forced to use Fucking Dynamic punch to threaten Snorlax, and yet it still doesn’t 2HKO it
Tyranitar Dynamic Punch vs. Snorlax: 231-272 (44.1 - 52%) - guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
>b-but muh Rapid Spin and Defog are useless without Stealth RockAbsolutely nothing about stealth rocks forced the absolute best Pokemon to run those moves. And its not even true in any Gen since spinners have been around since Gen 2 on top of several other hazards existing.
