Idk about that, I can tell that there were developers in Gamefreak that still cared a bit when I played Sun and Moon, and that reflected in the music. I think they're finally completely run dry, so I expect nothing spectacular.

Not really. The game barely takes advantage of the more powerful hardware. Most of the game you are still restricted to linear cooridors with no camera control, small towns with fixed angles, and the only thing they added was a small field which looks like it was on the n64, and probably could have been done on the 3ds with a small amount of downgrading.

Sword and Shield's boutique track doesn't even sound like that. It just sounds like a generic overproduced electro track, more focused on how many cool instruments they can cram in a piece of music than a melody or a rhythm. And I never thought I'd say that about anything from a Pokemon game.

That'd definitely be more accurate, yeah. It's sad, because if anything, Pokemon is known for having pretty good music. SM had a pretty great soundtrack. I think only the rival themes hit any ground that's worth considering as "good", but that's mostly because I'm a huge Gen 5 shill.

Honestly, SM seems to win every time, but to be fair, the OST for SwSh isn't really 100% available, so maybe that could be the reason I find SwSh's OST cacophonic so far. There are exceptions. The Gym Battle sounds unique and decent. The Overworld Theme (recreation) and Champion theme sounds ok.
