Don't talk shit about Diglett. It originated as a character that one of the designers used to draw in the margins of his notebook when he was a little kid. Diglett is unironically a soulful creation, born out of a passion to create something charming rather than just "what kawaii big-headed animal with an arbitrarily tacked on magical element can we turn into plushies and trading cards next?"

Dugtrio is a reference to naked mole rats, which are the only eusocial mammal, which basically means that the entire colony acts as a single organism.
