What are some ideas for challenge runs?

I bought a 3ds from someone and it has a digital copy of x installed. Haven’t played a pokemon game since bw2.

I’ve heard xy are kinda shite but I’d like to try it out, but the vanilla experience sounds boring.

I know about nuzlocks but I’d like to try something else. Maybe a team of shitmons or a monotype team or something.

What are some ‘weird’ playthroughs that you’ve tried out and how did they go?

I've never attempted a nuzlocke. Too lazy. But I've done a couple of solo runs, a tag-team run and a gimmick run with shitmon only. Usually I find solo runs to be the most enjoyable since it comes with unique obstacles that you normally don't have to worry about if you have a bigger team, but at the same time you're speeding through the game without having to worry about grinding tedium because all the exp is going into this one pokemon.

Maybe if you do too many solo runs, but I've only done a couple in different games so it hasn't gotten old for me yet. I'd recommend it at least once.

Which are pretty bad. You can’t use TMs nor the Exp Share. Try not to use more than 4 pokemon at once until the end of the game, because the gym leaders and the elite four don’t have full teams.

The only HM your other pokemon can’t learn is fly, which could be taught to a pidgey or a fletchling, but if you evolve these they could be too useful and fast for your team. You can get farfetch’d in route 22 or trading it for a bunnelby in the city where theres the first gym. If you just want a slave that you won’t level up or use in battles, hawlucha learns many HMs. But overall the weakest fly user would be farfetch’d
