Slurpuff's X and Sapphire Dex entry states "It's like it can see with its nose!" And that's because that's exactly what it does. Its sense of smell has become so powerful that its eyes are redundant, and have atrophied the way cave-dwelling animals in real life lose the pigmentation of their eyes due to disuse.
This adds a whole new layer to the complex thinking that went behind such a goofy design; chiefly that its red eyes are indicative of the lore behind the creature while also staying true to the three-color palette that allows it to maintain its genius simplicity. And that's just one detail!
I believe that it is no exaggeration to say that Slurpuff is a perfect representation of everything a Pokemon should aspire to be.
Simple, vibrant, strange and familiar, and thought-provoking.
But I'm biased.
