You had no previous experience with Gen 3 games, you never knew about the existence of shinnies, and you never had another battle in these games except for that first wild battle against Poochyena. There is no telling that the stars are not just part of the regular send out animation.
While OPs post is most likely an old bait, my experience definitely happened. I was 13 to 14, back in 2002, and while I had finished Red and Yellow up to that point and had had my way with Gen 2 games, I never got far enough into Gen 2 to reach the Red Gyarados point to know about the existence of shinnies.
