Uxie has excellent mixed defenses and can Memento for the meme suicide setup along with screens. It used to be how you get fucking garbage setup sweepers a chance.
Azelf has a more complex life, having great speed and dual offenses, and bizarre/cool attacking options for a Psychic sweeper in Nasty Plot, Fire Blast and Explosion. It's complex because its speed actually makes it a more-used screener and lead because it takes less damage than more defensive Pokemon due to having the screen up before being hit, can taunt other leads and explode on them.
It's Mesprit that makes me pity anyone who likes it. Fuck Mesprit, there's absolutely nothing fun to milk out of it.
