>>40015116Detail + Proportions are definitely a factor It really looks so much such a regular possom because it is proportioned just like a regular possom mess around with the size of body parts. On top of that it has so many details it looks like a nature sketch not a cartoon creature.
I'd take one or two features. Really extenuate them and streamline the rest of the design to just the basics.
>>40014973Also just some concrit and suggestions. I prefer the original, but I never would have gotten a bootleg merch vibe from it. I see the markings, but nothing else about the designs really give me that feel. Part of it is your pallet is very muted and doesn't have a pikachu feel or a merchandise feel. I don't get any vibes other than "filthy vermin" and opossum. I also think if you really want to achieve a Pokemon feel and push your concept you need to add more whimsical
elements. Let's go back to the original design since I like it more. If I were to push the bootleg feel the first thing I would do is make it look more defective. Snap the tail, give it more of Pika's coloration, alternatively give it Pika's coloration except change a few things to the wrong color on the cheek pouches. I'd also attempt to make it more "plush" and add a few rips and seams, if you are trying to make it look like it's bootleg trash.
I don't know the purpose of this design though so maybe a more subtle realistic approach is what you are going for. If that's the case I apologize.
