Just make it 3v3 like Battle Spot.
They could at least try it for a few years and see how it goes. It would likely be more popular than doubles and have more participants. Pokémon variety would arguably be larger as well depending on the ban list. It seems weird to not include an official singles format now that GF seems to be focusing on the competitive scene more than ever.
While they're at it, might as well also make a format for triples and rotations if they ever brought it back since they're Kino formats.
