Starmie is an hermaphrodite. When the water reaches a certain temperature it triggers Starmies breeding season. At this time, when two starmies meet in the wild they meticulously grope each other with their appendages. When one starmie detects the other is sexually active they then proceed to wrestle each other. The winner penetrates the loser and dumps its sperm inside it. The loser then hurries along to a dark, safe place to wait until the eggs develop. At this time the loser won't eat for weeks until the eggs can be laid at which point she abandons them.
Meanwhile as long as the breeding season is active the winner will relentlessly hunt other starmies down and attempt to wrestle them.
