It was one of the least popular anime seasons. I think if Ash had won the Unova league the reaction would be somewhat similar to what we see with this season.

Its an old anime that should've stopped after the third movie. Also it was terribly animated, had Ash at his worst, and was an even bigger disappointment than the crappy Kalos league with how hollow it was.

You know damn well why it wasnt hype. The rampant bank animation, bland direction, and anti climatic fight with Gladion hold no narrative weight. Guzma should've been in the Finals. He was the driving conflict of it.

Dont even get me started on how they didnt properly build up Guzma or Hau. 30 FUCKING EPISODES and Hau gets no focus episode after his first appearance.

The league feels like an afterthought. Anyone can enter. Too many gags make it hard to take seriously.
