LGPE had the worst soundtrack in pokemon history. Even the music lacks effort. It was all generic MIDI orchestra and was incredibly samey. Just take a listen:

Just compare how dynamic FRLG's Silph Co. is compared to Let's Go's. It's brilliant how it builds up to be so frantic and urgent.

I don't think Let's Go Champion battle was bad, but I think if FRLG's arrangement was redone with higher quality instruments, I think it would be much more interesting. The transition from 0:28 is awesome.

Its fine but doesn't try hard enough to be memorable. All the tracks have this pleasant feeling (might just be nostalgia) to them which might sound generic/bland to some.

I find the soundtrack to be generally superior to the FRLG one. Just the trainer battle theme makes a huge difference considering how often you hear it. The one major downside is that you only get to hear the "wild Pokemon battle" theme against 6 Pokemon.

Overall, the LGPE soundtrack manages to be more faithful to the original soundtrack than the FRLG one was, despite being fully orchestrated. I appreciate that.

Clearly your ears don't work. The guitars maybe, but the others clearly aren't. Having one layer of an actual instrument over a midi track doesn't suddenly make it not midi.

Shota Kageyama is a fucking hack who can't make anything but generic JRPG music from pre-existing soundpacks he doesn't know how to utilize properly. All of his tracks are safe and boring, and do nothing to challenge the ear. He's the primary reason why XY's soundtrack is so bland and forgettable.

Nah, he's made some of the best tracks in B/W, and several of his tracks in gen 6 are really good too. But yeah, he isn't quite consistent, LGPE was a trainwreck of an OST (aside from most battle themes).

BW was easily his best showing, and I have a feeling that's both because he was given musical assistance from other members of the team, and because he had to use the soundfont the rest of the team was using. Most of his tracks from HGSS and BW sound a lot more daring and adventurous than the ones he made afterwards.

I'll hesitantly give Kageyama the benefit of the doubt when it comes to LGPE and put some of the blame on Masuda, because Masuda said that he didn't want the arrangements to have "huge, sweeping changes" and to not draw too much attention to distract other people in the household, because the music would be playing from a TV and stuff.

I miss Morikazu Aoki. He didn't compose much, but what he did compose was pretty good, and his sound direction work for RSE was supreme. To this day it still has the most satisfying SFX.

Especially that bike theme. Goddamn FRLG ruined the bike theme. The pitch is way too low in that game.
