Gen 5.

Post game was awesome. It had a slightly simplified overworld (no annoyingly long caves/water routes, but also not so bad with handholding that it was unbearable). Great bug pokemon and gym leaders.

That’s your problem. If you don’t learn to appreciate the main campaign then you will probably never enjoy Pokémon again. A lot of people on this board have this huge problem with treating the post game like it’s the main content, and most of those people are the same people who go on about how modern Pokémon sucks.

Can you go into detail about what part of the gen 5 postgame you liked? And I’m guessing you’re talking about B2W2 because BW had less postgame content then USUM

Unfortunately you're right. For the most part I would tolerate the main campaigns just to get to postgame. Gamefreak don't give a fuck about that anymore.

That being said, I also like breeding and making fun/competitive teams/sets as well, but the loss of the full pokedex hurts that really bad. Monotype becomes much less viable once key pokemon gets deleted, odds are some gimmick teams I have RIGHT NOW are going to be broken by the loss of pokemon, breeding will be harder and even egg moves might be lost

I'm okay with just "an extended campaign" after the elite 4 like b2w2 had. The reason I like this "extended campaign" much more than the actual campaign is because the games vastly open up more. I can fight harder trainers with new pokemon outside of the regional dex, I have access to tutors, more useful items, etc.

Besides that, I'd agree that nothing else you listed is bad news, it's just meh news, news that you should accept as standard and doesn't justify the cut of pokemon and other features. If you think the other things you listed are huge improvments which justify all of the negatives, your standards are really low

Not him, but it's not necessarily about the money. I'd pay 200 dollars for a good pokemon game with post game, a wealth of content, and had effort put into it. But if we keep getting yearly releases, none of them will be good, and they don't fill the void of a GOOD pokemon game.

What new animations? The old pokemon don't get any outside of maybe raid bossed going dynamax.

Nothing you mentioned is exciting or a game-changer. Just rebranded old stuff. You could get mostly the same experience with more pokemon by playing USUM.

Maybe actually adding some quality animations. No, I'm not demanding they create hundreds of detailed animations for 900+ pokemon all at once, but they could have easily been adding new animations to pokemon every yearly release since XY, and they can even put more focused effort into popular pokemon. I agree it's a waste of time to put tons of effort into making tons of lumineon animations because nobody uses that shit, but a fucking starter should look like a lifeless puppet

Even IF they included the whole pokedex, Idon't think this is unreasonable demands since they have been feeding us the same engine/models for years and years now, and the games now cost 60 dollars, but these improvments would at least indicate gamefreak is making an effort and soften the blow of the loss of the national dex.

Again, they aren't mutually exclusive. You can have fucking PSS without cutting the dex, fucking XY did it. Your standards are disgustingly low if you convince yourself losing huge amounts of content is okay because you can now move the fucking camera (in only ONE area of the game even if the area looks decently sized).

But you can. There are barely any new animations, added to the last game. The amount of new animations/model ground work is insignificant compared to the amount of work they put into the development of XY, and that was only 40 dollars. You are stupid if you think that fucking overworld encounters (takes zero fucking effort, they already had the walking animations, and the basic coding of walking around randomly from LGPE) is such a huge undertaking they couldn't bother porting models which already existed. Customization is not a huge fucking undertaking, it was also in XY/SM and they had full dexes.

Plenty of people spend tons of time breeding/battling with those pokemon just because you don't. And I'm not even laser focused on the national dex, they've been slashing huge amounts of content and features since like gen 3. Most iterative release series keep adding more and more features, that's the advantage of a series that barely advances in quality between releases. If they aren't going to maintain features they could have at least maintained the dex

But the addition of the broken max move after effects (rain, attack+, etc) and the culling outweigh everything you mentioned, especially when they should be standard since long in the first place (pss, free camera) were already present in a precedent pokemon switch game (customisation, OW, better textures) or have now features held behind a paywall (pss)
