>>40084627The posing is only particularly offputting for the Gen I Pokémon, and that's because instead of using the artwork that was made for Red and Green, they're using the artwork for Blue which was intentionally drawn to look more dynamic. But there was a huge shift between Gen II and III in terms of art. Sugimori stopped using his hand-drawn watercolors and paint and switched to digital. It's strange how nowadays, Gen III's character art looks closer to Gen I and II than it does to Gen VI or VII.
Eventually, Sugimori made new illustrations for all the Gen I Pokémon for FRLG, and then all the Gen II Pokémon for HGSS. Those are the ones we use now. ORAS only got new illustrations for Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip, but that's basically what third versions do. The Kanto starters got new illustrations in Blue and FRLG, the Johto starters got new illustrations in Crystal and HGSS, the Hoenn starters got new illustrations in Emerald and ORAS, the Sinnoh starters got new illustrations in Platinum, the Unova starters got new illustrations in B2W2, [redacted], and the Alola starters got new illustrations in USUM. It's just that Blue, FRLG, and HGSS did all the other Pokémon of that Gen as well.
