>>40096756>In any case, the least comfy region is Kanto.Kanto is just tricky as it changes with every game but it still has its spots. Fuchsia, Mt Moon square, Bill's house but mostly Cerulean city are great in gsc, while hgss improves most of the region. For example Vermilion is a shithole port for three generations, but if you go there in hgss specially during sunset, it does feel like a touristic harbour, one that would actually attract sea liners. It's quite nice. Route 14 now has windmills looking at the sea, Bill's house a little hill from where to watch the sea, Vidridian forest is all lushy and mossy and Pewter becomes a rather picturesque town hidden in the mountains. Cerulean city gets the little pine trees, lamp posts and park with a fountain that make it feel like a calm suburban town specially at night. Even frlg has some spots imo like the eastern half of route 2, routes 3/4 and 9/10, the eastern piers and Celadon city.
>>40104140Imo it's the greenery and scale. Gen 2 excells at filling everything with forests and open grasslands, which also feel much larger than they do in gen 4 (probably because of the scale and size of sprites, but just looking at route 31, 33, 43, national park next to their hgss counterparts makes this much more noticeable). This gives johto the feeling of a vast, densly forested region that might expand beyond of what we are allowed to see and explore. Kanto exchanges the mountain forests feeling for of a meadows-by-the-sea one, but the greenery and vastness is there in some places, like around Pallet, Fuchsia and Cerulean.
In contrast gen 2 sea/mountain areas and big cities don't get much attention outside of cianwood, goldenrod and route 45, which makes sense as they don't look that good ( I would say sea routes and mountain canyons peaked in gen 3 while cities in general look their best in gen 4).
