I don't mind the sports outfits, it makes the gym battles seem like an important event
but I hate the safety gear for biking/pokeride
I guess its just there for children to remind them that wearing helmets is for cool kids

Yeah the gym battle outfits are retarded.
I also dislike trainers (not so much the boss ones, just regular trainers like Beauties or Black Belts) being able to wear clothes you can't in the games with customisation. Seems kinda lazy.

Gym battles and the league are the most important events of the game, and you can't have the style you want during them, it's fucking stupid

It's not really for safety, but to avoid clipping.Not all outfit and hairstyles will agree happiley to being carried around by Machamp or Biking. Specially biking, since girls have dress/skirt options.

HMs made you feel that your Pokémon helped you through your entire journey even outside of battle.
Renting Pokémon, using a bike or using a bird taxi is garbage because it makes your team pointless and unnecessary for you to travel the region

There's an easy fix for it. Just make Pokemon of specific types or appearances able to do HM moves, like surfing or cutting.
They can just enable the ability to do the field move after certain gyms. It'll make as much sense as it did with the HMs.
But no, they have to make us use rental Pokemon that we have no connection to.

Well that’s exactly why following Pokémon isn’t in the game. Every single pokemon in the game has a walking animation as you can see in the camp they roam around in. They literally are just saving it for Let’s Go gen 2 because that’s going to be the only good thing about the game and they know it.

HMs are impractical and just bad game design whether you like to admit it or not. The sole purpose of Pokémon in the game is battling, and to be forced to use pokemon in your party specifically for HMs rather than the actual gameplay mechanic they are meant for is just silly, not to mention it takes up a move slot so if you actually wanted to use it for competitive battling then you would have to breed for a new one. While I admit it really isn’t much work and you probably would breed a new one anyway for nature and whatnot, HMs are still not really worth it.

But an easier way to look at it is this: if HMs weren’t a mechanic in any of the previous games but for this gen they decided to implement it, the reception would be overwhelmingly negative. People that want HM’s only want it because “it’s a core pokemon feature!”

If English is your first language you should be able to easily tell from context I was talking about using HM moves in the overworld based on type or appearance instead of it being based on what Pokemon has the move.

The way I see it, when you're using in-game Pokemon where it doesn't necessarily matter how good they are, there isn't exactly much wrong to teach them HMs. You can teach a mon something like Fly or Waterfall to make up for a good movepool, and to not always lug Pokemon to use for the whole purpose of HMs. Plus, how many people use their in-game mons in competitive?
Even if you do use an HM slave... how much do you lose, really? You still have five party members, in return for one Pokemon that can get you through a dungeon. That's still plenty of teammates to use. That said though, I do agree that HMs would be hated if it were introduced later, and I sometimes think that it adds arbitrary difficulty when it doesn't need it.

In fact, HMs as they were done in Gen 1 are genious game design, with the only bad thing being that they couldn't be forgotten. The thing is that they went overboard in the next generations, making HMs out of the ass (Gen IV required at least TWO Pokémon to have all the HMs at the same time).

Then Gen V got a good solution: you don't need HMs to advance in the main game (expect one instance that you need Cut, and it's done to teach about what HMs are), but to access optional routes and secret places. The bad thing is that this approach requires to have roadblocks like the infamous "One day we'll go" that felt random and out of place.

But until Gen VII HMs provide a sense of "I'm travelling with my companions and they help me overcome obstacles with their abilities" that simply using "Rental" Pokémon or silly tools like in LGPE just don't get to feel as right, even if they're more convenient in terms of time and accessibility.

The bike thing is a lot worse, but I could have sworn I saw two different bike outfits in trailers at some point. There may be some customization options within that as well.

Yeah that's an unpopular one. I like them trying to change HMs but I don't think the solution they found is the best. I thought item HMs was a good idea too but in practice it removes all interaction your party has with the world. I feel that it should just be a passive ability.

The 3d models of the human npcs in pokemon mainline games are being heavily outsourced and made by Malaysian, korean and indian people since lets go. Gamefreak doesnt care enough to make their own 3d models in japan so they go for cheap outsourcing in mainline games. They didnt outsource for the dena game pokemon masters which is a boring mobile gatcha game but the characters look great and are also japanese made so this is weird...

How about leaving HMs as the are, but also making key items you can ALSO use to get through the same obstacles instead of using moves?
Flashlight instead of FLASH, hatchet instead of CUT and so on.
For balance make HMs easy to get and gate the items behind some silly sidequests and postpone the moment you get them, like you already have 3 HMs by the time you can cut down trees manually.
Or hey, make manual move use into shitty minigame like fishing is.
How are those for ideas Mr. Game Designer of a DevTeam?

Dynamax wasn't used smartly in the games, like prompting players to aim to a weak point or something, depending on the Pokemon; or even better, wage a battle like in Shadow of the Colossus or The Wonderful 101.
Instead we just got big sprites where lack of detail is accentuated.

They could do that by literally adding a helmet and knee/elbow pads on top of your regular clothes when you use the bike or ride pokemon and shit. If you;re wearing a hat the helmet replaces the hat unless you chose the helmet as your hat, long skirts/dresses get replaced with shorts. Hell, make that customizable too - choose the color of safety gear and gym clothes or flat out let us set up separate outfits for that with clothing/accessories tagged for use in appropriate menues.

You've got a point that it's better for emersion, but HMs are still shit moves that take up multiple move slots on multiple party members since you can only have 4 moves per pokemon. Plus a lot of them are used as roadblocks in ways that other games have found better alternatives for, such as letting you get your ass beat by something at a much higher level you can't realistically beat until the point you're supposed to go there.

HMs add to the adventure of the earlier games. Having to plan a party out when going into caves or mountains made it feel that much more like an expedition.
They're the same as adding utility spells to a wizard in an rpg, and they can even give a use to less powerful pokemon that you still want to keep in your party.
The cancerous competitive scene doesn't like them because they can't have their perfect pvp team, but HMs lead to a richer adventure and single player experience.

They're not adding utility spells to the wizard, they're adding utility spells that only unlock a specific key to the sorcerer who barely has enough spells to work with as is. If HMs were worth using in battle or if they only were complete new terrains like Dig, Fly, and Surf that'd be one thing. But they're bad moves that just let you shoo an obstacle away from your view most of the time. You have to either deal with your battle monsters being worse than they should be because of one tree in the road, or you have to bring around a Pokemon you don't want to use just to clean up route litter. Ride Pokemon not making you use up Moves was a huge step up even with the misstep of using other people's Pokemon instead of your own.

Agree to disagree. I enjoy the feeling of exploration they afforded the early games. A mountain feels like more of a trek when you have to plan who you'll teach to cut down trees, who will help you climb up rock faces, and who will help you scale waterfalls. While balancing it with your party's ability to defend itself.
It's not a perfect system, but it more fun than "press up on the d-pad to cross this roadblock whenever you need to". That makes the roadblocks seem tedious and handholdy.

I get where you're coming from but dungeons in Pokemon are total garbage. It's pretty rare that you need multiple HM moves to get through a dungeon so it's more of a question of which single pokemon with this specific move do I bring rather than 1 or 2 utility mons.

Biking is a team sport. Look at tennis or golf. The players wear whatever they want and maybe a sponsor's hat.
Pokemon battles aren't physically exerting on the trainer, so if anything they should be showing up business formal.

Here comes some A+ game design: Make extra slots for HMs that can't be used in battles.
Teach your Pokemon to defog an area without taking up the 4 main move slots.
