I feel like Pokemon is one of the few videogame franchises that started years ago where the nostalgia boner is towards the early games.
I mean, look at Metroid. Nobody really cares about the first games (and people disliked second one), they consider Super Metroid to be pinnacle of the series.
Zelda? Ocarina of Time. Mario? I'd say Super Mario 64, possibly with one of the NES games closely behind.
