Double battles. Notice how those are also the best fights in the main games whenever they happen. You're forced to think about more stuff and you can't switch out when your opponent does.

not the mention they add a ton of shit for double so they can push VGC
my biggest problem with the series has always been the complete lack of anything but singles, they make all these different battle modes and you'll be lucky to do half a dozen of them during a 30 hours game

We're talking about the team who realized you could make a half-functional hyper beam team by roaring out the attacker to avoid dead turns. The tomfoolery designers like that could pull off with the later games is impressive.
