Hi OP
>>40102624 here's your (you) if that's what you wanted haha you got me.
Thought I'd give you some insight into the mind of a genwunner.
I do like all the gen 1 basic rpg enemies you posted, why? because they're icons! yes, i know this is a nostalgia answer, but you have to understand the cultural impact pokemon had when it first came out (and probably will never have again) While I think aegislash and chandelure are cool, they will never be icons. Also you seem to equate more complicated designs are inherently better. I am going to have to disagree with you on this point and say that the simplest design is usually best. Easily identifiable silhouettes, few enough details that it can be drawn from memory, these are positives in my design philosophy. Feel free to disagree, i guess. I know voltorb took about 1 minute to design, the important thing about it was that it looked like an item in the overworld so it could be a proper mimic. It accomplished this goal perfectly.
People tend to like the watercolors of gen 1-2 better than the digital artwork og gen 3+ because they look less sterile and corporate. I know SOUL is a meme, but the newer style is just a bit more boring. Charmeleon has a boring T-pose in the pic you posted, while in the old gen he's actually doing something. I prefer this.
not gonna talk much about the sprites or gen 1 mechanics because I agree with you, most of your points annoy me about gen 1. Crystal had some of the best sprites in the series, though.
>tldrthat's cool this is really just a message for OP
