>>40110909Don't bother listening to the doomposter crowd. They're just a little upset of some the recent news, but they'll get a grip soon.
Here's the real deal:
)Gen 1-5 are perfectly playable. I suggest starting with gen 3, going to gen 4, then 2 and/or 1 and then 5. Meanwhile I would look at gen 8 to see if it appeals to you (ignore the doomposting about it). Finally if you are beyond curious about 6&7, just play one of the games. Also note Sun and Moon are exactly like their old games
)The cards are okay, but they usually don't allow older cards in matches. Also the online site is free.
)Mobile Games especially Go are fine no matter how much /vp/ cries about them. In fact, pokemon go is the only one that's socially accepted by almost everyone outside the fanbase.
)The fanbase is okay-ISH. It's not as bad as Sonic, Zelda or SW as long as you can stomach and ignore the waifu/fur/pedo/bait
)Competitive Pokemon is as autistic as it sounds. Though Pokemon Showdown (the website) is fun to play and watching people play (like a championship) is fun.
)Romhacks can be fun
)Don't worry about learning them all in a week. You'll learn most of them through playing the games and discussions
)Despite what I said the above, you should probably learn most of the first 151 as they're the ones normies know the most
)I don't know anything about the anime because I couldn't muster through all the Sinnoh fillers.
)The movies are "meh", but enjoyable
)Almost every spinoff game is good.
)I don't read the manga, but I hear it's good
)The best game in the franchise is argued over, but it's probably HeartGold&SoulSilver or Black2White2.
)The game that defines Pokemon the most is FireredLeafgreen (plus they are the least hated games)
)I don't know anything about the toys/plushies, but I'm sure /toy/ knows a lot
)If you want to know a quick statistic/movesets/information on a Pokemon game, go to Serebii. Otherwise Bulbapedia is better
