>>40113765It was never okay, but it was somewhat acceptable, especially with the first two gens, since they were a small studio for gen 1, and gen 2 was built off of gen 1 and started development before Pokémania.
Gen 3 was shit and didn't utilize the hardware at all, but it was developed basically with the GBA, so whatever. Personally, I don't think it deserves a pass, though. It's fucking bad.
Gen 4 was their first attempt at 3D (2.5D) and it's acceptable because top down still works for Pokémon, and overall the environments look OK.
Gen 5 is where they really started to fall behind, awkwardly mixing sprites and 3D environments. These were the THIRD sets of games for the DS; it should have been full 3D.
Gen 6 they finally attempted full 3D and failed to utilize the hardware even worse than gen 3 -- and it wasn't even new at this point. It's been a disaster ever since. Fucking embarrassing.
