Why did Gamefreak feel the need to specificallly
single out and screw over Grookey this much in regards to stats?

"Balanced" literal garbage.
Its like they specifically singled out Grookey to be a shitmon.
I'm not a Grookeyfan (I'm a Scorbunnyfan) but even I think this is really messed up and unfair to Grookeybros and Grassbros in general.

Base form stats don't mean anything

Rowlet has the highest base HP of the Alola starters, but Decidueye's HP is only 10 points higher than Rowlet's and is the lowest of the fully evolved starters

THESE STATS AREN’T ACCURATE
The max BST any starter has had was 320; that they’re estimating 330 is a relief, but absolutely no one knows any stat modifying aspects to demo Pokémon (EV’s, candies, IV’s) so let’s just be patient before we come to conclusions.

Not to mention Decidueye is the fastest of the Alola final stage starters (though that doesn't mean much) when Rowlet used to be slower than Litten. Heck, Inceneroar is actually slower than Torracat.

I'm not saying it's going to be the most powerful grass starter to exist, but this is just plain braindead. A simple "yes, only offense good" would have been as good of an explanation.

We don't know it's typing, so that's just a load of horse shit.
It's also on par with Bulbasaur/Chespin, trading a bit of def for HP. If it's bulky, hits decently hard, and has a good movepool those stats are most certainly something a bulky Pokemon can work with.

The demo stats are fairly obviously not gonna be in final product. Scorbunny's Atk is only 12 short of Infernape's in that. At most they might imply what the mons will eventually focus on.
