That’s the problem. We can’t hold them to any standard other than itself without fanboys going insane, and even then Pokémon manages to disappoint by its own standards. Don’t get me wrong, I’m gonna buy Sword for multiple reasons (not just “my bro is in” or “kantoooo” or “just consume”), but Pokémon has stagnated as a series for a long time, and this, this is supposed to be their magnum opus. Their first switch title. Sure, X/Y weren’t the 3DS’s magnum opus, but this kind of technology should warrant even greater strides in advancing the series, and instead we’re getting small advancements in places we didn’t really care about, and I bet this game has framerate issues even worse than the new Zelda remake does.
