No because that's a story with a CHARACTER and not a SELF INSERT. When a protagonist is a SELF INSERT and is customizable, if you choose to play as the opposite gender as your baseline way of playing any game like that, you're a tranny.

Most people aren't going to replay games, and specially not a game like Pokemon where a new save file, for your average normie that isn't autistic enough to pay for shit like PokeBank, means losing anything you got that is halfway interesting like a shiny or a rare Pokemon or whatever.

The "most people" shit is the excuse they didn't put in the Battle Frontier in ORAS.
And even if the replaying isn't an issue, going through the main game with interruptions at every fucking route and town is just tiresome.

I can handle story in a game, I loved BW. SM’s story has no hook, no reason to be invested in its events or characters. Gen 7 has an issue with priority. Specifically, it has no priorities and does little to differentiate between events which advance the plot(like meeting Lillie in the library, meeting Lillie in front of the apparel shop, and learning how to catch pokemon) and side mechanics (such as Z-moves or Battle Royales). In addition, it fails to differentiate between those and events with no purpose (for example, fighting team skull at the Marina and finding Nebby in Melemeld Meadow in SM). The game wastes the player’s time with salad dressing, which makes it difficult to pay attention when something important is happening because it could just as easily fizzle into nothing.

I still haven't finished it, been months since I bought it. I've played and finished most of the Pokemon games, but this one (or in my case, Ultra Sun) is a fucking snorefest if I've ever seen one. The plot is... Well, it's there, I guess? But after taking a week off from the game, I forgot most of it, so I don't think it's anything to write home about. And to whoever thought that a talking Pokedex blocking the whole map at random intervals was a good idea - fuck you.

Pokemon literally doesn't need more story than Gen 1 or Gen 2. Story and a larger amount of characters add nothing to these games, especially when Game Freak can't write for shit. SM would've been somewhat ok if the story culminated in you fighting the UBs. But no, they couldn't even do that, they had to focus on the girl you babysit throughout the game so she could deal with family issues. Other JRPGs at the very least manage to have entertaining stories. I can play through Dragon Warrior VII no problem because the game knows when to leave the player the fuck alone.
If Game Freak wants to flex their writing boner so much then they should just stick to writing background lore the player can find on their own terms.
