As far as we know, all the base Hunger Switch affects is Aura Wheel's type, which forces the player to run Protect to be able to play around it. Constantly switching forms will get really tiresome after a while, considering the animation, flavor text, and when you just want to spam one of its STABs rather than alternating between them (We all know it isn't going to get Dark Pulse, because Game Freak REALLY wants you to make use of the gimmick).
My suggestion makes more sense, allows player input, is consistent, fun, lets you get more creative with spreads and movepools, and is open to more strategy. Sure it restricts which forms it'll be in based on its hold item, but being able to control its ability is a lot better than simply putting up with it. The positives outweigh the negative.
