>>40138598. As much as I like to shit on Gen 5 for what it truly started even if wasn't near as bad as what followed. Gen 6 had a lot of potential but it was completely squandered and then 7 just took the series to hell.
I don't want only story. I want to be the story and find the story. I want to have to go out of my way and talk to NPCs and find diaries and try weird things to make other things happen. I don't want hallways or zoomer western open world in the sense that there's nothing much to do. The route design is ideal if it were just fleshed out properly.
Exploring the world and training a bunch of new friends and old, are what matter most to me in a general sense and fading to black almost literally every three steps is not anyone's definition of those things. Story was in Gen 1 and 2 to make you want to do something. Pokemon has so much fucking more than that now. It doesn't need forced story except for the fact that it's easier to shit trash out yearly by bogging you down with cutscenes rather than the content.
