I am a Genwunner who is playing Platinum and I chose Piplup but my friends tell me that it is very slow and the champion's Garchomp is going to tear it apart, is that true? I need an ice type pokemon because it is a bit of a disappointment.

Just don't use it against Garchomp then...? Does your friend know you can use Pokemon other than your starter? When I was little dumbass I beat her with only infernape and Staraptor so you should be fine.

Water/Steel is a top tier typing, even more in gen 4, just catch a fast ice type like sneasel or froslass

You can beat any mainline game with any 6 fully-evolved Pokemon (excluding mememons like Unown). I can think of like 100 ways to beat Cynthia's Garchomp, only kids struggle against that, Whitney, etc.

That's a strong party so i wouldnt remove anyone, but id highly recommend a special attacker (Alakazam, Gengar, etcetera) to go with Magnezone

Piplup is a great choice, it evolves into one of the best mons you could ask for. You can always raise your own Garchomp along the way, I found Gibble on my first run.

I forgot to include Houndoom and I suppose my friend exaggerated said that the Garchomp destroyed equipment alone and had Stats of a competitive pokemon

Empoleon is the second-best starter in that region. Infernape is better, but only because it rips teams in half barehanded.

Empoleon has an excellent defensive typing that's only really weak to two types that have common total immunities, and one that has an easily-enough gotten total immunity. If you have a ground and a flying type on your team, you have nothing to fear since you can get free switches, and a ghost type on top can make Empoleon weak to nothing, so long as you switch.

It's a great thiccboi.

Cynthia's AI is fucking garbage, she kept spamming water moves against my Toxicroak even after knowing it had Dry Skin.
