I never really understood how these games were easy. For me they were balanced (with few ups in difficulty here and there) while using exp share, amie and super training, I didn't use kanto starter (because I loathe them) and free lucario (because I wanted to use new mons and I already used him once in platinum) though

No Gym Leader has more than 3 Pokemon

All of the Elite Four bat the champion only have 4 Pokemon, which as far as I'm aware all other regions they have 5

Your entire party can gain EXP for any victory or capture

You can completely EV train your team from damn near the very beginning of the game

Game spoon feeds you ultra powerful, mega evolution Pokemon

Pokemon Amie raises fucking everything about your Pokemon and can even let them withstand attacks that would KO you and land crits more often. Amie was probably the most broken thing about it.

Game was piss easy. Enjoyable, but piss easy.

Hawlucha and Gorgiest are shitmons

Tyrantrum and Aurorus are ok

And Goodra and M-Gardevior are good.

Not terribly, but underwhelming. Blue in R/B/Y had a great team. Lance had 3 fucking Dragonites. Steven had a Metagross. Aggron, and Skarmory. Cynthia's entire fucking team was a threat. Hell even Iris in gen 5 was packing heat, but Diatha? Eh

Well yeah the games aren't exactly difficult, but packing up the hardest trainer with 3 Dragonites as opposed to a fuckin Hawlucha is at least an attempt. Also to be fair, Lance is like, the halfway mark. His ace is level 50. Red is the real final boss, and his team is fuckin stacked. Snorlax, all 3 Kanto starters, Lapras/ Espeon and Pikachu can do some damage.

I'm sad there was never a 3rd version to add a challenge and fix its other incomplete aspects. There were a lot of cute features in Kalos. I appreciated it for what it was but it still feels empty, we left gen 6 unfinished.

Gen 5 does this as well, unless you're playing Challenge Mode BW2. They're still harder though as they have tougher types to counter and you have fewer options. I actually find Unova to be the most challenging Elite Four.

Hawlucha is an excellent pokemon that can buff itself unlike passive garbage like Skarmory and Spiritomb which you can buff and sweep the rest of their team. The level doesn't matter people can beat Red with Pokemon well under 60 and I personally beat Cythnia at 50 by buffing on her shit Spiritomb.

I liked that part, getting to the gym felt like an importnat accomplishment even though the game was super easy. I'm more disappointed on the fact the rest of the game wasn't like that.

Have you looked at Blue’s team in RBY lately? The movesets are absolute crap. Hell Pidgeot and Arcanine have (and will attempt to use) whirlwind and roar, even though they do nothing in trainer battles in gen 1. Exeggutor somehow doesn’t even have 4 moves.

Without them it is still easy, but here you are admitting you had to dodge shit thrown at you that makes the game easier. Which you have no option but to pick up, mandatory things the game gives you and turns on by default make it easier.

High amount of pokémon doesn't matter if they're just shitmons to fill the space

No, they weren't, at least for me they weren't. And if any mainline game should be called piss easy it's red/blue which is full of trainer's with first route shitmons with shit movesets, not to mention certain broken mechanics player can use to their advantage

Assuming you turn it off and run a 6 mon team, the game at least scales into a decent challenge. The level scaling was clearly designed for Exp Share on.

Ex. By the end of my playthrough, MGarde was so far above my teams stats/level that it would outspeed and ohko my entire team. The only way I was able to kill it was by making her waste full restores earlier in the fight, then using priority and using revives on the priority users to get through Garde.

The whole set up of having to turn off ex share annoys me. The best type of in game difficulty modifier is something that makes the game easier, but is less rewarding than learning the game. Like many fighting games now have autocombos, if you mash a certain button you get a full combo but it is way less optimal than real ones. Or games like RE4 will change enemy patterns and shit on a hidden points system. The worse player eventually gets an easier option, but the better player gets through the more complex challenge faster as they never had to die. Even just a basic difficulty selector can reward you with a more complex challenge to face.

Current Exp share doesn't change the game, it just ups your reward. A good or bad player has no real reason to turn it off. You are basically just saying no I'll grind more, there is no counter balance of the person who chooses the harder option can explore something further. Your reward for it being off is find an area with high level pokemon you are super effective against and grind. Older gens it made sense, it was an item that split exp and after gen 2 took up a hold item space. Gen 6 on it just gives you 50% extra, there is no counter balance. It's like if you had a switch that could reward you with less money, it is harder but in the least interesting way possible.
