Had XY aired directly after DP it would have been shit on, especially Serena.
By the same token, SM is shit on because of its art and airing after the genital mutilation that was the Kalos League and Team Flare arc. It wouldn't have been as poorly received following DP, even though DP had a similar fuck-you end.
