It's almost like Red and Green were a passion project by an actual indie studio with some help from Nintendo and the company almost went bankrupt multiple times throughout development. They may be held together by tape and completely unbalanced, but if it didn't capture the core reasons the series is popular, the series wouldn't exist today.

Purple used to be a very expensive process to create dye for. So, only rich people at the time could afford it. Some places also had laws against owning purple fabrics if you are not of royal blood.
