Ash Greninja was meant to replace Pikachu as Ash partner. Sun Moon was originally really dark where Ash and Greninja kill everyone in their paths

Has Pidgeot returned? No. All the mons Ash released into the wild don't come back.

When Kalos started none of his mons returned, just Pikachu and with no actual reason other than shilling the new mons and making Ash a weak trainer again.

Johto proved that old and new mons can't co-exist. The Johto mons didn't get to do anything because the Kanto ones were still around.

If anything Johto proved you can balance both old and new mons. The problem is the new mons get the shaft since people gush over the old ones and ignore the new ones

Battle Frontier was alright. Gen 3 'mons formed most of the main team, and everyone else came back for boss fights.

I hope one day he comes back for good like Charizard did. Even if he won't appear most of the time, I like that possibility that he could be used.

If the anime is shifting focus from being just about current gen region to multi-gen regions, it's the perfect excuse to start using more of his older Pokemon.
