So no, popularity doesn't seem to have much to do with it. They will obviously never cut pokemon like the Gen 1 starters, Pikachu, or Meowth, but past that it seems like there's no rhyme or reason to who gets deleted.
It does seem that Turner-designed objectmons are going to be given preference going forward, since Turner has said he loves Objectmons and plays favorites. So I hope you really like Gen 5.
